Today, I'm excited to host, author Annie Highwater. Her latest book, Unbroken, came out the other day. I was lucky enough to get a pre-release copy of the book before it hit the shelves. What I found most inspiring about Unbroken is the theme of hope and optimism that continually weaves its way throughout the book despite the tough topics it tackles.

When we’re active in our disease, we tend to be self-centered. The world revolves around us and for me, it revolved around my next bump of blow. If you stood in my way of that than I was quick to cut you out of my life. If I didn’t remove you then I lied to you. No matter who you were. Mom, dad, sibling. I didn’t care. You were an obstacle to me getting high so if it meant a fib here and there, I didn’t even bat an eye or feel an ounce of remorse as I spun my web of deceit. After all, my drugs numbed my pain, what was one more thing to numb?
I remember when the only meetings I attended were those required by my employers. Ugh. Although one company I worked for had a breakfast meeting and each division was assigned to cook breakfast on a rotating basis. That was pretty awesome. Unless it was my week to cook. I digress.
